Dr. William E. Flanary grew up in Houston, TX, and completed his undergraduate studies at Texas Tech University, where he was selected to join the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology. During his time at Texas Tech, Dr. Flanary met his wife, a native Oregonian. After college, Dr. Flanary left the heat and humidity of Texas for New Hampshire, where he attended Dartmouth College’s Geisel School of Medicine. While studying at Dartmouth, Dr. Flanary discovered his love of ophthalmology. He was attracted to the advanced technological aspects of the field as well as the meaningful relationships that are forged with patients and colleagues. Dr. Flanary was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society prior to earning his medical degree. He then completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Iowa, one of the nation’s perennial top 10 ophthalmology training programs. During his residency training, Dr. Flanary served as Editor-in-Chief of Eyerounds, one of the top ophthalmology educational resources in the world.
