Stephen Slade, M.D. is a world renowned ophthalmologist, specializing in LASIK, Presbyopia correction, cataract surgery, implantable contact lenses, and refractive surgery, serving patients in Houston, Texas. About Stephen Slade
He completed a residency at the LSU Eye Center in New Orleans and fellowships in corneal surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and in New York, New York on Project ORBIS. Dr. Slade is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. He is an active teacher of surgical techniques and has taught, lectured to, and certified over 8,000 surgeons on LASIK and lamellar refractive surgery.
In 1991, along with Stephen Brint MD, Dr. Stephen Slade performed the first LASIK in the United States. Later he performed the first Custom LASIK ablation based on topography in the United States. He has since done tens of thousands of cases.
Stephen Slade, M.D. has remained on the cutting edge, having the nation’s longest experience with laser cataract surgery, all-laser LASIK, accommodating IOLs (Crystalens), and the implantable contact lens (ICL). In fact, Dr. Slade was a lead investigator and presented the data to the FDA for panel approval for both the Crystalens and the implantable contact lens. Of unique note, Dr. Slade is considered a “surgeon’s surgeon”. Over 450 of his fellow eye surgeons have chosen him for their own eye surgery. He is an active researcher and the U.S. medical monitor for several new technologies including the Intralase laser for All-Laser LASIK, the implantable corneal contact lens, and the Wavelight laser. He has received numerous awards including 11 named lectures, Refractive Surgeon of the Year, two China Service Medals, the Summit Technologies Pioneer of Refractive Surgery Award, the Casebeer Award, and the Lans Lectureship.

My son had an eye procedure with Slade and Baker vision. Dr. Slade performed his procedure and he is wonderful- he has exceptional bed side manner and he did an excellent job during the procedure. Dr. Essa is so kind and amazing as well! The staff is all amazing and so kind and professional particularly Corina took care of everything pre and post op- she was so sweet, efficient and took fantastic care of my son during pre and post op. I cannot recommend Slade and Baker enough for your eye needs!! 10/10 in service, professionalism and such an amazing staff!!
Experience with S & B for my LASIK surgery was smooth, informative, and the staff was incredibly helpful. My recovery really only took less than a day, and my vision is amazing! No more glasses! Corina assisted me on LASIK day, and was super helpful - along with the entire staff, really!
Dr. Slade, Dr. Essa, Edina and Corina did an exceptional job with my eye surgery. I was very stressed out about being awake throughout the procedure and they were right. With the anesthesia used I felt no pain and was just alert enough to answer questions. The procedure itself went incredibly well and exceeded my expectations. I could see quite well in my right eye right after my operation. I did a lot of research before choosing a surgeon and specialist group. It’s my eye after all…no second chances with that so I wanted the best surgeon and surgical team I could find. Dr. Slade and his team are simply the best. The reviews I read prior to committing were spot on.

The entire team at this office and surgical center are amazing. Dr.Slade, Dr. Essa, Rene, Karina, were so warm and friendly getting me ready for cataract surgery. Surgical center staff, Nurse Theresa and Inda were so efficient and patient. The aide that took me out to the car was so kind. The follow up care is great as well. The chart to keep track of the required drops was so helpful. Couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you all for making it so easy. You definitely have 5-star service.
Very professional and excellent results! Removed my cataracts, new lense implants and vision was almost 20/20 the next day! No pain at all!

Dr Slade removed my R eye cataract yesterday and I have extreme happiness with my vision and his staff, along with him. He called me personally yesterday to ck on me💯 I strongly recommend him to anyone who is in need of having this surgery. My post op today with Dr Wright was also amazing. Was told I could already pass a driving test. The only downside is noticing my floors, dang, I need to start doing a better job cleaning😂
