Dr. Chua graduated with an ScB in Neuroscience from Brown University with a 4.0 GPA. He was then selected to receive a full-tuition Gamble Scholarship while attending medical school at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. After medical school, Dr. Chua completed his internship at Lincoln Hospital—Weill Cornell Medical College. He then went on to complete his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, widely regarded as one of the best ophthalmology programs in the country. During his final year of residency, he was chosen to serve as the Chief Resident and was awarded the Austen T. Gray Memorial Scholarship.
Dr. Chua has led cutting edge research and has published several peer-reviewed articles. His research has been featured in leading journals, including Ophthalmology, Cornea, and Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has earned several research grants and awards for his work, including: The Fight for Sight Research Fellowship, the Muhlenberg Foundation Medical Scholarship, The Jack S. Ringer Research Fellowship, and a National Eye Institute Research Award. He has been invited to several national and international conferences to present his work.
